Non-destructive inspection (NDT) with microfocus computed tomography

Microfocus computed tomography is called for whenever depth information is required for the evaluation of an object and its quality. It allows perpendicular slices to be made and delivers statements about material defects, regarding their type, geometry and position in parts such as:

  • Cast parts
  • Electronic assemblies
  • Ceramic parts

The X-ray inspection system X8011CT system accommodates the growing need for quality assurance. It is increasingly used in areas including prototype qualification, reverse engineering or also in inspection accompanying serial production.

The X-ray inspection system X8060 NDT also fulfills the complex requirements presented by the inspection of electronic assemblies at high magnification, without restriction. Microfocus computed tomography allows the 3D reconstruction of test objects of up to 30 kg. For objects of this size, Viscom has developed a microfocus X-ray tube with a maximum acceleration voltage of 250 kV, for improved irradiation of thick and strongly absorbent structures.

Its high resolution allows microfocus computed tomography to deliver information about pore size and position in plaster foam, identify surrounding die-attach adhesive and inspect cold welds in crimped connections.

Today, image capture and evaluation with microfocus computed tomography are ready in a few minutes, depending on the required level of quality, to make this a time-saving alternative to prior laborious and destructive inspection methods.
