Viscom Inc. Celebrates 10th Anniversary

In October of 1998, Viscom Inc., took a big step toward a successful future by moving into their first U.S. office in Norcross, Georgia. This venture into the global marketplace propelled them into their current position as one of the leading global suppliers of AOI and X-ray systems for the electronics manufacturing industry.

The first steps in penetrating the US market were challenging. After considering several prospective cities, the founders of Viscom, Volker Pape and Martin Heuser, picked Atlanta as the home of the US headquarters. Some of the deciding factors in their decision for the South East included: the 6 hours time difference to Germany; excellent flight connections worldwide and low operating cost.

Dirk Nuelle, Viscom’s first resident engineer, along with Volker Pape, received a tremendous amount of encouragement and support from the German American Chamber of Commerce. The GACC provided Viscom Inc.’s first mail address and fax line. Paul Handler, Viscom Inc.’s first sales manager, was discovered through the recommendation of Rick Esneault of BJR, Viscom’s sales representative in Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee and Georgia. Viscom Inc. sold their first AOI machine to Chrysler Corporation in August of 1998. The aggressive growth which has occurred since the sale of that machine has more than validated the decision to expand to the US.

Today Viscom USA has three offices and multiple service locations throughout North America. According to Carsten Salewski, Viscom Inc.’s CEO, "Business is going very well and encourages us in our plans to further expand our support structure"

On October 10th, 2008 Viscom celebrated this important milestone in the US headquarters in Duluth, Georgia with employees and their families, along with business associates and friends.
