Archiving solution

So that customer data can be safely archived over the long term and protected from tampering, Viscom now offers the facility of permanent archiving and protection of common data types in a secure ISO27001 computer center environment in a so-called "managed private cloud environment." Once the data is deposited here an S3 worm storage lock protects it against alterations or deletions for a customer-defined period.

Which technologies are used?

This service uses so-called worm storage lock tape /disk media and worm storage lock server systems which were previously known in the area of tape backup technologies. Systems were developed for S3 long-term archiving which can permanently access the tape / disk archive areas and thus give customers uninterrupted 24/7 access. All Viscom systems operate in a managed private cloud in Germany and are permanently monitored and controlled by Viscom and the private cloud service-provider.

What do you need to use the Viscom S3 archive?

All that is needed is a secure https network access from the customer's network to our S3 archive server system in Germany. For the encrypted data transport and, for example, the systematic deposit of production quality data for storage, Viscom recommends that the customer establishes a central data collector (this can be an existing Windows system, for instance), which collects the data at regular intervals and systematically deposits in into the Viscom S3 archive storage system.

How can customers access their data?

Customers can use the vConnect portal or a standard S3 browser to access their S3 space at any time. Viscom recommends, for example, the S3 browser from NetSDK software for this purpose; the S3 drive or the Web-DAV drive can also be installed as an alternative.

How secure is data in Viscom's S3 archive?

Viscom exclusively uses ISO27001 certified computer centers in south Germany for archiving customer data. The data is subject to the stringent security standards for data storage in WORM LOCK technologies which were specifically designed for these data processing purposes. Data security has absolute round the clock priority and is guaranteed by Viscom's highly qualified IT staff and our cooperation partners.

What about customer separation / data owners?

Every Viscom customer is allocated their own S3 data space. This is specifically set up for each individual customer. Under the contracts concluded with the customer, the latter has complete 24/7control of their data. Deletion of the data is dependent without exception on the agreed S3 LOCK period. This cannot be subsequently altered because of statutory revision security.
